Overview

On Dec. 10, 2010, at NCSL’s Fall Forum in Phoenix, the Law and Criminal Justice and Human Services and Welfare Committees discussed child sex trade in the United States.  A recent national study said some 100,000 young people are exploited in sex trade each year.  Some state legislatures are reforming laws to identify young people who are being trafficked and provide services and assistance to them as victims and children in need of assistance, rather than treating them as juvenile delinquents or adult prostitutes.
