Overview

With the recession and housing crisis, many consumers fell behind in paying their bills, causing their creditors to initiate the debt collection process. Despite state and federal regulations designed to prohibit deceptive, unfair, and abusive practices by collectors, consumers logged more than 140,000 complaints in 2010 with the FTC about collectors and their practices. Listen as the session discusses debt collection regulation and recent reforms.
