Task Force on Redistricting and Elections
Mission
The Redistricting and Elections Executive Committee Taskforce of NCSL focuses on redistricting, election law and campaign regulation. The Taskforce develops NCSL policy on federal initiatives related to these topics. It studies legal, technical and political issues affecting redistricting of state legislative and congressional districts, the conduct of elections and the regulation of campaign finance. The taskforce is the conduit for state legislative communication with the U.S. Census Bureau and the Voting Section of the U.S. Department of Justice as well as the federal Election Assistance Commission. The taskforce also studies demographic trends that impact state policymaking. Most recently, the Taskforce helped secure adequate federal funding for the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) and explored the ramifications of recent judicial action in the area of redistricting.
