Task Force on Federal Health Reform Implementation

Mission

The passage of the two federal health reform bills, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, states will have more responsibility for providing, funding and regulating health care and will at the same time share more responsibility with the federal government. State legislatures will play an important role in the implementation of the new health law and will need assistance in understanding the provisions of the law and identifying those areas where state legislative action is required. They will also need assistance in identifying options and best practices. Finally, as Congress considers changes to the law and the federal agencies promulgate regulations to implement the new law, states legislatures will need to have a voice in Washington, D.C. to advocate for continued state flexibility and for adequate financial support. The NCSL Task Force on Federal Health Reform Implementation will help guide NCSL’s activities to assist legislatures in these important efforts.
