Committee Description

The Labor and Economic Development Standing Committee has jurisdiction over state and federal issues related to labor, employment, workforce and economic development, international trade and cultural affairs. The range of issues covered by the committee includes, but is not limited to public and private sector employment, wage laws, pensions and retirement, business development, trade agreements, affordable housing and the role of states in developing arts and cultural policies. The committee educates Congress and federal agencies about state concerns related to federal actions that impact these issues. In addition, the Committee serves as a forum for legislators and legislative staff to learn about and share information about policy options being considered in states.
