During this interactive roundtable discussion, participants will have the opportunity to share information about how they are addressing state budget deficits in their states and to learn how other states are addressing similar concerns. Policies addressing K-12 and higher education funding will be an important part of this discussion.

Reauthorization of the Perkins Vocational Education Act

(Joint with the Labor and Workforce Development Committee)

The 1998 Perkins Act, the federal vocational and technical education statute, and the proposals to reauthorize the law will be reviewed. Federal funds currently constitute approximately 8 percent of aggregate vocational education funding. Updating its policy position on the Perkins Act will be considered.

During this session, participants will have the opportunity to hear about the Kennedy School of Government's work with school superintendents and to participate in a roundtable discussion about legislative efforts in the states to support school leaders.
