In 2010, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) will host five “Legislator in the Lab” meetings at medical schools across the country. These meetings take state legislators into medical laboratories to learn from doctors and other medical professionals about the diagnosis, impact and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

In June, NCSL hosted such a meeting at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Legislators saw presentations on disparities in outcomes from cardiovascular disease, therapeutic substitution and the obesity epidemic. In addition legislators were able to watch a catheterization procedure performed live via video training software.

Information on developing healthy communities that ward off cardiovascular disease.
