2014 Midwest Environmental Health Policy Summit

2014 Midwest Environmental Health Policy Summit

Doug Farquhar 3/7/2014

Illinois capitol domeThe 2014 Midwest Environmental Health Policy Summit, held Feb. 20-21 at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel in Springfield, Ill., was the latest in a series of meetings that focuses on the environmental health concerns of the Midwest.

This summit engaged key state legislators and staff with presentations from national and state experts about environmental health issues confronting Midwestern states, with session topics that included alternative fuels and vehicles; clean diesel’s impact on respiratory health; an in-depth exploration of radon and PCBs; and public health concerns on hydraulic fracturing. Co-sponsored by the University of Iowa and the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest, the agenda was framed to allow plenty of time for discussion and to provide opportunities for legislators and legislative staff to meet with their colleagues from other states and with experts to discuss regional environmental health issues.
