Internship Education Program National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL)--Denver, Colorado
Hours: 10-20 hours per week Start Date: Late May or early June Salary: Internship is unpaid. However, many university and college departments will give academic credit for internships. It is the student’s responsibility to contact his or her advisor and obtain academic credit within the school’s guidelines.
Serving as a key resource for state lawmakers since 1975, the National Conference of State Legislatures is a premiere, non-partisan source for research, publications, consulting services, and meetings and seminars. As a core research program within NCSL, the Education Program provides information both internally and externally across the spectrum of education public policy issues. This intern will be assisting with several current projects, including teaching quality, high school reform, and higher education.
Basic responsibilities include:
- Assisting staff in the development and deliverables of current projects on teaching quality, expanded learning opportunities, education finance and education technology.
- Tracking and analyzing pending legislation and policy actions.
- Developing issue and policy summaries for the NCSL web site.
- Assisting NCSL staff in answering information requests from legislators and legislative staff.
Necessary skills include:
- Solid understanding of the legislative process.
- Excellent writing and research skills.
- Solid communication skills
- Strong work ethic and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Opportunities to gain internship credit may be available, depending on the intern's academic department requirements.
