Algerian Delegation Visits U.S. During Two-week Study Tour

A twelve member staff delegation from both legislative chambers in Algeria came to the U.S. for a two-week study tour that included time in Austin, Nashville, and our nation's capital.  State representatives and staff members from both the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate spoke to the delegation on issues relating to the uses of technology in the legislative process, the benefits of a legislative libraries, and general legislative procedures.  The delegation joined many international delegates at NCSL's 2006 Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee and participated in sessions ranging from state to global affairs.  The group was then given a tour of the Tennessee State Legislature and the Legislative Archives and Library.  In Washington D.C., the delegation visited the House of Representatives, the Library of Congress, the National Archives, and the Congressional Research Service. Legislative and research experts related their experience to the staff members and exposed them to the services of their organizations.  During their stay, the Algerian Ambassador to the U.S., H.E. Amine Kherbi, was gracious enough to host a reception for the delegation in his Washington D.C. residence.

The delegation members were enthusiastic and curious throughout the study tour, and are eager to implement what they learned in both Algerian chambers.  Below is a photo of the delegation at the Research Services of the U.S. Congress.  Other photos from the tour can be found here.
