Opportunities for Involvement
Foundation Sponsorships
The Foundation for State Legislatures supports the innovative research, seminars and publications of NCSL and the work of three major programs: the acclaimed Trust for Representative Democracy, the Center for Ethics in Government and the Women's Legislative Network. The Foundation provides an unparalleled opportunity for individuals, organizations, corporations and unions to participate in strengthening representative democracy in America. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided some $12 million in grants to the National Conference of State Legislatures to support the work of the nation's 50 state legislatures.
The broad agenda of the Foundation requires sponsor support. Foundation sponsors ensure that the many works of the Foundation are realized. Foundation sponsors have the opportunity to contribute annually at either the Gold or Silver Sponsorship level. In exchange, Foundation Sponsors recieve benefits such as access to NCSLnet, complimentary registration for the NCSL Annual Meeting, access to NCSL staff experts and discounts on NCSL publications.

Opportunities to Impact National Issues
Foundation Partnerships
You can support the important work of the Foundation as a partner to address major challenges to representative democracy in today's political and social environment. The Foundation has professional staff that can work with foundations or private donors to enhance existing programs or create new ones.
Current Partnerships:
Health Information Technology Champions (HITCh) The NCSL Forum for State Health Policy Leadership propsed a project with the NCSL Foundation to strengthen the capacity of state legislators to respond to issues related to the use of technology to improve access, quality and effectiveness in health: HITCh--Health Information Technology Champions. States are generally supportive, but wary. Past experience with investments in information technology have yeilded mixed results. There are serious security and privacy concerns related to health and medical data in electronic form. Legislators want to better understand the possibilities and limitations of current trends in order to tailor state policy and make decisions abotu how-- and how much-- to invest in information gathering, analysis and dissemination in support of quality, value purchasing, error reduction and program effciency.
Education Technology Partnership This project seeks to inform a national legislative audience about the promise and potential of technology in education. It will explore some of the key policy questions about the application of technology in the new era of education by collecting and disseminating information about the current state of education technology infrastructure. This Partnership will examine how many states are utilizing high tech educational options, how states keep up with the quickly changing technologies and the overall impact of technology on student learning.
Economic Development Partnership Individual states spend millions of dollars annually on economic development programs. Yet few states know the exact amount they spend to support economic development initiatives and no state knows how effectively their money is spent. Academics and policy makers continue to debate a fundamental question: Do state financial incentives have an effect on state economic growth? This project examines state economic development tools and programs in order to establish a set of guiding principles for lawmakers to consider when thinking about economic development.
Broadband Partnership The NCSL Connecting America project will assist state legislators in understanding broadband and will outline for lawmakers the various policy options that can facilitate the deployment of broadband throughout the states. It will include a one-day invitational meeting, two site visits, an article in NCSL's State Legislatures magazine and a project website incorporating the information and resources gathered from the project.
