NCSL Programs 

Family Economic Success

In today's uncertain and challenging world, many American families work hard and play by the rules but still struggle against financial insecurity and a real lack of opportunity. Since 2002, The National Conference of State Legislatures / Annie E. Casey Foundation Partnership on Family Economic Success has assisted legislators who want to create more opportunities for working families to succeed.

Women's Health

NCSL's Women's Health Across the Lifespan webpage provides links to NCSL resources for a variety of health topics as well as other helpful websites.

Maternal and Child Healthcare

NCSL's Maternal and Child Health (MCH) programs focus on health issues concerning women, children and families, such as access to appropriate prenatal and well-child care, infant mortality prevention, emergency medical services, injury prevention, newborn screening, and services to children with special health care needs.  

Cancer Prevention and Control  

NCSL's Cancer Prevention and Control webpage provides links to NCSL resources as well as other helpful websites.

Human Services and Welfare

NCSL's Human Services Project covers early childhood and youth policy, hunger and nutrition and welfare reform issues, among others.

NCSL Standing Committees 

NCSL has 11 Standing Committees whose membership consists of state legislators and legislative staff. The jurisdictions of the standing committees are similar to those of committees in the state legislatures. Standing Committees meet three times each year and allow legislators and staff to benefit from the experiences of other states in shaping public policy, experimenting with new laws, and managing the legislative institutions.

This report presents information about medical and social issues involved in women's health, and the various ways in which legislatures have chosen to address them.

This LegisBrief discusses cervical cancer, the second largest killer of women worldwide.

Cancer Survivorship: State Policy Issues (2006)
Policymakers who are aware of these cancer survivorship issues are better able to make informed policy decisions.  This booklet published by NCSL provides some examples of key policy issues related to cancer survivors, including health insurance, employment, pain management, family support and end-of-life issues.
