RE:	Application for Network Executive Board Membership

The Women's Legislative Network of NCSL promotes the participation, empowerment and leadership of women legislators. As you may know, the Network is unique in its relationship to NCSL, and like NCSL, represents all women legislators by virtue of their election to office. I encourage you to become involved in the Network by applying for Executive Board membership.

The Network has a rich history of providing women legislators opportunities to learn and lead together. In fact, my involvement with NCSL and with the Network has provided me with numerous opportunities for networking, professional development and leadership. The Network can only grow and continue to serve the needs of women legislators with the active participation of current members. I invite you to help us make the Network a better organization by applying to serve on the Network Executive Board!

The Network Board consists of 14 members - four officers (President, President-Elect, Vice President and Past President), eight regional members and two at-large members. The board is politically and regionally balanced. Board directors and officers serve one-year terms; however, directors may elect to serve two terms while officers are limited to one. Board members (officers and directors) must attend Network board meetings, held twice a year at NCSL meetings (Legislative Summit in July and Fall Forum in December).

Following completion of the current board term (concluding in July 2008), six board positions will be vacant - Vice President (D), two southern regional positions (D and R), one midwestern regional position (R),  one western regional position (D) and one at-large position (R). To apply for board membership please complete the form below and return it by Wednesday, June 11, 2008.  Applications will be reviewed by the Network nominating committee, which will recommend one legislator for each position. The slate of prospective new board members will be elected at the annual Network business meeting on July 24 in conjunction with NCSL's Legislative Summit in New Orleans.
