What is EPCglobal?         
A joint venture between GS1, (formerly EAN International) and the Uniform Code Council, EPCglobal IncTM is a neutral, not-for-profit standards organization consisting of manufacturers, technology solution providers and retailers that are driving the global, multi industry adoption of the EPCglobal Network.TM  EPCglobal US is an affiliate of EPCglobal Inc, and responsible for driving EPCglobal Network adoption in the United States.

How did EPCglobal begin?        
EPCglobal has a long heritage. One of its parent organizations, the Uniform Code Council, was responsible for driving global adoption of the bar code in the 1970s and 1980s.

The concept of the EPCglobal Network was conceived by the Auto-ID Center, a global research team directed through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with laboratories around the world. Their research was supported by more than 100 leading manufacturers and retailers and focused on harnessing the power of RFID for commercial applications. Companies and consumers are the ultimate beneficiaries of the EPCglobal Network, as it enables organizations to be more efficient, flexible and responsive to customer needs.

Who are EPCglobal US subscribers?
EPCglobal US classifies subscribers into two general  categories: end-users and solution providers. End-users  include manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, carriers and government organizations. In general terms, end-users are the organizations that have objects in motion in the supply chain. Solution providers – organizations that help end-users move goods through the supply chain – include hardware and software companies, consultants, systems integrators, and training companies. At last count, EPCglobal’s member organizations had more than 500 subscribers worldwide.
