STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS
2008 CALENDAR

As a legislative staffer, you are automatically a member of NCSL. Take advantage of our research and information services, as well as our learning opportunities whether it's your first or 25^th session.

Through these Professional Development Seminars you can create a unique network for research assistance, consultation and professional support. Each of the staff sections has its own purpose, personality and activities. We also offer the Education Finance Seminar (February 2009), and the eight-day Legislative Staff Management Institute for senior staff (August 2008).

October 1-6, 2008 Reno, Nevada Natalie O'Donnell	American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries ASLCS serves the chief parliamentary officers and staff involved with the lawmaking and administrative processes of state legislatures.
December 12-14, 2008 Atlanta, Georgia Sara Vitaska	The Legislative Education Staff Network LESN strengthens state lawmakers' understanding of education issues, the quality of education policymaking, and the provision of public education through high-quality professional development and engagement of legislative staff. LESN will be holding their Fall Seminar immediately following the NCSL Fall Forum in Atlanta, Georgia, December 12-14, 2008. Pre-registration is required.
September 2-6, 2008 Indianapolis, Indiana Brian Weberg	Leadership Staff Section LSS is for those of you who work directly for legislative leaders or for party caucuses in policy research, constituent services, public information and administration.
September 10-13, 2008 Columbus, Ohio Kae Warnock	Legal Services Staff Section If you draft bills or work on code revision, legal research, litigation, administration and enforcement of ethics codes, and administrative rules review in state legislatures, become involved with LSSS.
October 15-16, 2008 Denver, Colorado Kae Warnock	Legislative Editors Conference Why We Sweat The Small Stuff: Develop and sharpen skills that really matter in editing in the legislative environment: Attention to detail, solid mastery of the written word, ability to sustain focus, tact in dealing with writers, excellent communication skills.
September 3-6, 2008 Louisville, Kentucky Meagan Dorsch	Legislative Information and Communications Staff LINCS is the only national association for staff with public information, civic education and media relations responsibilities (Meeting jointly with NALIT)
October 15-18, 2008 Sacramento, California Janna Goodwin	Legislative Research Librarians Librarians and information specialists in legislative agencies are welcome in LRL.
August 2-9, 2008 Sacramento, California Karl Kurtz	Legislative Staff Management Institute The LSMI program is an 8-day intensive training program for senior legislative staff that focuses on practical application of and tools that legislative staff can use to meet the increasingly complex policy and management demands characterizing state legislatures throughout the country.
September 23-26, 2008 Madison, Wisconsin Judy Zelio	National Association of Legislative Fiscal Offices (Fiscal Analysts Seminar) NALFO serves those of you involved in fiscal research, budget review and tax policy analysis. (Meeting concurrently with NLPES)
September 3-6, 2008 Louisville, Kentucky Pam Greenberg	National Association of Legislative Information Technology If you are involved in information systems and computer services in state legislatures, NALIT is the organization for you. (Meeting jointly with LINCS)
September 24-27, 2008 Madison, Wisconsin Bob Boerner	National Legislative Program Evaluation Society If you are involved in program evaluation or performance auditing, NLPES is for you. (Meeting concurrently with NALFO)
September 21-25, 2008 Concord, New Hampshire Morgan Cullen	National Legislative Services and Security Association Sergeants-at-arms, security personnel, and services and administrative staff come together through NLSSA.
October 6-8, 2008 Tampa, Florida Jeanne Mejeur	Research and Committee Staff Section Committee, research office and caucus staff exchange ideas and participate in professional development opportunities through RACSS.
