Although Avian flu has not caused significant illness in humans, the pandemic is real among poultry and other bird populations.  It has caused the death or destruction of more than 150 million birds in Asia, Africa and Europe.  In the United States, wild bird testing is used as an early warning system for U.S. poultry.  State support is vital for tracking, containing and eradicating Avian flu.
