State Senator Don Balfour, of Snellville, was first elected to the Georgia Senate from the Ninth District in 1992 and has consecutively served for 14 years.

A Republican, Sen. Balfour is Chairman of the powerful Senate Rules Committee. In addition, he serves on the Senate Appropriations, Education and Youth, and the Health and Human Services committees. He is on the board of both the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce, and represents Georgia on the Executive Committee of the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (RLCC). He also is an appointee to the Executive Committee, the governing board of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC).

Sen. Balfour serves on the Executive Committee and co-chairs the committee on Suggested State Legislation with the Council of State Governments (CSG). He also is a member of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) where he serves on the Executive Committee, and is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

In 2005, Sen. Balfour led the fight and helped pass the third toughest ethics law in the nation, and in 2006, led the fight to pass one of the strongest eminent domain laws in the nation.

He is an executive with the Waffle House, Inc., and has been with them for over 25 years.

Sen. Balfour is a graduate of Bob Jones University. He and his wife, Ginny, are the parents of a son, Trey. They attend Grace Fellowship Church.
