VanLandingham Leads Legislative Staff
Florida legislative staffer will oversee NCSL's 10 staff sections
NEW ORLEANS – Gary VanLandingham, director in the office of program policy analysis and government accountability (OPPAGA) the research arm of the Florida legislature, will succeed to the position of staff section chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures. NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves the nation’s 7,382 state lawmakers.
VanLandingham served as NCSL's staff section vice chair for the 2007-2008 conference year and will serve as chair for 2008-2009. Sharon Crouch Steidel, director of information systems in Virginia, automatically succeeds to the office of immediate past staff chair.
NCSL provides training, professional growth opportunities and information sharing for legislative staff. NCSL has 10 staff sections and a staff network that sponsor meetings, training and publications. Legislative staff are also eligible to be members of the NCSL standing committees, which address state policy issues and state-federal issues.
Gary VanLandingham has more than 25 years of experience in conducting, leading and managing program evaluations and policy analyses at both the state and local government levels. He has been active in NCSL for almost 20 years, and has served as chair of the National Legislative Program Evaluation Society, staff vice-chair of the assembly on state issues, and member of the NCSL 60-member executive committee. He received a legislative staff achievement award in 2000.
The National Conference of State Legislatures is the bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the states, commonwealths and territories. NCSL provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
