Election Day

Moment of Silence

Lamar Bailey, an research analyst with NCSL's education program has been tracking prayer in schools and/or moment of silence legislation in states across the country.  Are they the same thing?  How long does the moment of silence have to last? Did something happen to bring this issue back into the spotlight?  Find out by listening to our podcast (5:58)

State Legislatures Magazine

The October/November edition includes articles on the number of states attracting baby boomers in order to boost their own economies; the lack of food inspections; and federal legislation to give states and cities protection from potential terrorist attacks.

State Health Notes

In this edition, states are dealing with the issue of whether or not to give licenses to midwives who do not have medical training.  A program in Massachusetts is giving medical care to inmates on the outside, which is helping to keep the community safe.  And more states are passing autism related legislation.

Healthy Community Design

Green buildings?  How about Green Communities?  Companies are taking into consideration levels of physical activity, water usage and traffic levels before building.
