Legislators to Convene for Energy Policy Summit in Nashville

Day-long seminar will create a vision for America's energy future

NASHVILLE - Energy fuels America's economy. As prices skyrocket and the reliability of sources is called into question, Congress and state legislatures are seeking ways to strengthen supplies. A day-long seminar in Nashville will bring lawmakers together to share ideas and create a vision for the nation's energy future.

The National Conference of State Legislatures' Energy Policy Summit will take place Monday, August 14, 2006, the day before NCSL's Strong States, Strong Nation Annual Meeting kicks off.

The summit will delve into:

  • short and long-term energy options for power, transportation, and heating fuels;
  • ways to stabilize fuel prices;
  • the role that alternative fuels and new technologies will play in the nation’s transportation sector; and
  • methods to improve security and reliability of energy infrastructures.

Working with energy experts, participants will create themes to use to develop their own energy strategies and to provide a framework for national efforts.

Attendance is free to credentialed journalists. Registration is required, even for those who have already registered to attend NCSL's Annual Meeting.

The summit is from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 14 in Tennessee Ballroom C, Level 2 of the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, 2800 Opryland Drive in Nashville.

NCSL's Annual Meeting is August 15-18 at Opryland. If you haven't registered for it yet, sign up today! This is also free for credentialed journalists.
