Utah State Legislature Wins "Online Democracy Award"
Utah wins first competition for state legislative Web sites
SEATTLE -- Utah's state legislative Web site was recognized for its design, content and technology at the NCSL 2005 Annual Meeting.
Two national organizations, the Legislative Information and Communication Staff Section and the National Association for Legislative Information Technology, teamed up to recognize the Utah site during the annual meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures. NCSL, a bipartisan organization made up of the nation's state legislators and legislative staff, held its annual meeting this week in Seattle.
NCSL Staff Chair Jim Greenwalt, of Minnesota, said the award was created to honor outstanding Web sites that brings democracy closer to its citizens. "Our judges were impressed by Utah's integration of RSS feeds and multimedia streaming. The site's design is elegantly simple while effectively allowing users to easily navigate."
The Utah State Legislature web site, le.utah.gov, was recognized for its outstanding achievement in the use of design, content, and technology to bring democracy closer to the citizens of Utah. Judges pointed to the site's integration of RSS feeds and its audio and video streaming.
"The site's design is elegantly simple while effective in the way it allows users to navigate through the site," the judges wrote. "The Utah State Legislature's web site is an example for other legislatures to follow in utilizing web technology to deliver public information to their constituents."
