NCSL Mistakenly Included as Endorser of Congressional Black Caucus Statements
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Conference of State Legislatures was mistakenly included as an endorser of statements made at a Congressional Black Caucus press conference held today at the National Press Club regarding the federal response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
While all state legislators are members of the National Conference of State Legislatures, NCSL By-Laws and Permanent Rules of Procedure clearly establish rules for placing the Conference on record in a matter of public policy.
The issue discussed at the press conference today was not voted on at any of NCSL's business meetings nor was it ever considered.
NCSL is the bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the states, commonwealth's and territories. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
