MEDIA ADVISORY: Changing Trends in Federalism
Driver's licenses, eminent domain highlight Congress' power-grab from states
SEATTLE - The National Conference of State Legislatures will kickoff its 2005 'Strong States, Strong Nation' Annual Meeting with a press conference on the changing trends in federalism.
Over the course of the past several years, NCSL has documented an effort within the halls of Congress to shift public policy decisions from the nation's statehouses to inside the Washington beltway. Preemption of state authority and the enactment of federal unfunded mandates and cost-shifts continue to be a growing trend.
NCSL officers will talk about the relationship between the federal and state governments and highlight several recent issues which continue to erode state authority.
