MEDIA ADVISORY:  NCSL To Release New Snapshot Of States' Fiscal Conditions

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Find out how state budgets are faring in the latest fiscal update from the National Conference of State Legislatures. Embargoed copies of State Budget Update: April 2005 are available now to credentialed members of the media who agree not to print or air the information until 12:01 a.m. EDT on Thursday, April 14. (Publication in Thursday morning editions is fine.)

Journalists may request a copy by sending an email to press-room@ncsl.org stating that they agree to the terms of the embargo. Others may purchase the report by contacting the NCSL publications department Thursday, April 14 at books@ncsl.org.

This report is NCSL's newest quarterly look at states' financial situations. Since 2001, states have closed budget gaps exceeding $235 billion.

NCSL is the bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the states, commonwealths and territories. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
