Tours Showcase Model Programs in Utah
NCSL Annual Meeting Lets Legislators See What's Working
DENVER - Tour technology firms, a children's justice center or a clinic heavily staffed by volunteers. These opportunities are available during the National Conference of State Legislatures' Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City July 19-23.
International Delegates Tour Utah State Capitol. This special visit to the Utah State Capitol will provide an opportunity to visit the chamber. The discussion will focus on education issues, such as higher education finance. Afterwards, the delegates will be given a tour of the capitol. Monday, July 19, 2-4 p.m.
Local Technology Firm Tour. See the latest razzle-dazzle technologies and integrations that provide video, conferencing, Internet and other access and programs to businesses and residences at Comcast's Head End Facility. Then tour Sorenson Media, a world leader in imaging, medical device manufacturing, telecommunications and bio-genetics. This tour will demonstrate systems used to provide translation services (similar to TDD communications) and state-of-the-art communications systems for those who cannot use standard telecommunication devices. Meet at 1:15 pm at Salt Palace to catch tour bus. Monday, July 19, 1:15-5 p.m.
Children's Justice Center Tour Hosted by Picabo Street. Child abuse is a matter for everyone's concern. Please join Picabo Street, Olympic Gold Medalist and spokesperson for the National Children's Alliance, on a tour of the Davis County Children's Justice Center. Learn how this model children's advocacy center, which provides services for victims of severe child abuse, can set an example for your community. Wednesday, July 21, 3:15-5 p.m.
Health, Human Services and Workforce Program Tour: This program includes lunch and site visits to several highly acclaimed health, human services and workforce programs, including Holy Cross Ministries' volunteer lay health worker program, and LDS Welfare Square, a welfare and hunger relief program that relies heavily on volunteerism. Monday, July 19, 12-5 p.m.

Reporters are also invited to the Annual Meeting opening reception at the Utah Capitol at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20. The reception will be followed by a concert by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Temple Square.
Attendance at NCSL's Annual Meeting is free to credentialed members of the media. It's not too late to register.
NCSL is the bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the states, commonwealths and territories. It provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
