As America's state legislatures meet in January, many will begin the work of responding on multiple fronts to the threat of terrorism. States' efforts to protect democracy from future attacks -- and ideas to make every state safer -- are chronicled in the special briefs listed below. NCSL's Protecting Democracy series, "States Respond to Terrorism," examine such topics as emergency preparedness, vaccines, electronic surveillance, tourism, protecting our energy infrastructure, keeping water safe, fighting bio- and chemical terrorism, working to prevent fraud in drivers' licenses and more.
