Conference
Outline
This year’s joint seminar, sponsored by the Research and Committee Staff
Section (RACSS) and the Legislative Research Librarians (LRL), offers a
unique opportunity for legislative research and committee staff and librarians
to enhance their professional skills, learn about new technology and research
tools, and interact with their counterparts from other states.
The 2001 seminar is the first collaboration between RACSS and LRL and,
from the outset, it has been apparent that the two groups share many common
training needs. Research and committee staff and librarians will
have plenty of opportunities to network, both at plenary sessions that
will cover issues of general interest, and at shared social events.
In addition, RACSS and LRL will offer workshops more focused to the training
needs of their members, but of course, participants are welcome to attend
any of the workshops that interest them.
Richmond offers a beautiful and historic setting for the seminar and
the surrounding Virginia countryside boasts many historic, educational,
cultural and recreational opportunities for those who might wish to extend
their stay a day or two. Come join us and our Virginia hosts for
the premier training event of the year!

Seminar Social Event— Monticello
The agenda includes a visit to Monticello,
the home of Thomas Jefferson. Designed by Jefferson and built between
1769 and 1784 in the Roman Neoclassical style, Monticello is the only house
in America to be included on the United Nations World Heritage List.
The tour will be followed by dinner at the historic Ivy
Inn in Charlottesville.

Optional Social Event— Colonial Williamsburg
Following the seminar, participants may explore the 173 acres and more
than 500 restored buildings of Colonial
Williamsburg and experience life in the 18th century in the colony
of Virginia, where patriot leaders plotted America’s independence.
The trip to Colonial Williamsburg requires an additional fee of $40 per
person, covering transportation and admission. |
