Identity Theft
An individual's identity can be stolen by someone appropriating a name, a bank account number, credit card number, or some other piece of personal information. Identity theft occurs when a criminal co-opts personal information without the victim's knowledge in order to commit fraud or theft.
These pages provide information about state and federal laws and other sources that address policies and strategies for combating identity theft. NCSL Contact: Heather Morton, 303-364-7700 (Denver) |
