NALIT 2002 Professional Development
Seminar |

Short Agenda - Detailed Agenda View Closing Keynote Address |
The theme of this year's seminar-Who's Driving the Technology?-reflects a common question facing information technology professionals and others involved in the legislative process. Technology seems to be in the drivers' seat: new products and new versions demand attention, if not allegiance. And in the legislative world, there are many different and changing interests in the development and use of technology-legislative leaders and legislators, legislative staff, and the process itself. The NALIT Professional Development Seminar provides guidance and training to help navigate what can be a difficult and rocky road.
This year's seminar again offers two tracks: one for technical specialists and one for managers and others interested in policy and management issues related to legislative information technology. Participants are welcome to attend the sessions that interest them in either track. Speakers for the seminar combine the knowledge of industry experts and the experience and expertise of legislative information technology staff.
The NALIT seminar has been extended by one day this year. Instead of the separate pre-conference seminars held in previous years, in-depth training sessions have been incorporated into the regular seminar schedule.
Integral to the seminar is the opportunity to exchange experiences with other legislative information technology staff in roundtable sessions and small group discussions. These sessions give participants the opportunity to share information and advice with colleagues about information technology projects. Please join us for what promises to be a stimulating learning experience and a unique opportunity to meet with colleagues from other states.

The seminar is a relaxed learning experience, and casual attire is recommended for all seminar programs and activities. Average temperatures in the Reno/Sparks area in October range from lows of about 40° to highs of about 67°.
Attractions located within walking distance of the Nugget include Victorian Square, which features a 14-screen cineplex, interactive fountain, amphitheater, bandstands, sandstone mosaics and Victorian street lamps.
For seminar updates and other information, visit the NALIT Web site at www.ncsl.org/programs/lis/nalit/pds02.htm.

on Friday evening will be held at the National
Automobile Museum in Reno. The museum's authentic walk-through street
scenes and four galleries showcase more than 220 antique, vintage, classic
and special interest automobiles, demonstrating the effect automobiles
have had on our society.
Optional activities on Saturday afternoon include a trip to Virginia
City-the largest federally designated historical district in America.
It is maintained as it was in the boom days of the 1870s, when the Comstock
Lode made it the West's premier mining metropolis, with a population of
30,000. Visit underground mines, historic saloons, stately mansions or
old cemeteries, take a walking tour of the Liveliest Ghost Town in the
West or ride a steam train or trolley. Those who prefer golf can take advantage
of NALIT's second annual golf outing.
