Integrated Justice/Criminal History Systems

Enables states to implement or upgrade criminal justice information systems.

$500,000,000 for FY 2000 for the entire Byrne Formula Grant Program.

National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP)

Enables states to ensure that accurate records are available for use in law enforcement.

$45,000,000 for FY 2000. This includes funds for the NSOR Program.

National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR) Identification Assistance Program

Provides assistance to states with implementation and management of their sex offender registries.

Funded as part of NCHIP.

Statewide Identification Systems (SIS) Formula Grant Program

Enables States to implement computerized systems that are compatible and integrated with various federal systems.

In FY 1999, $8.9 million was available for awards. The amount available for FY 2000 is not yet known.

Local Law Enforcement Block Grants (LLEBG) Program

Provides grants for "equipment and technology," including implementation of justice information systems.

$523,000,000 for FY 2000. Of this amount, $20,000,000 is to go toward Law Enforcement Technology grants.

Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Technology Program

Provides for the development of technologies and automated systems to assist law enforcement personnel.

$100,000,000 for FY 2000.

Crime Identification Technology Program (CITA)

Provides grants to states to establish or upgrade integrated information systems.

$130,000,000 for FY 2000.

SEARCH National Technical Assistance and Training Program

Offers free, onsite technical assistance and training to justice agencies to assist states in developing, and managing, integrated automated justice information systems.

$1,500,000 of the Byrne Discretionary Grant money appropriated for FY 2000 is "earmarked" to go to SEARCH for this program.
