October 15 - 17, 2008 Denver, Colorado
The Legislative Editors' Conference provides specialized training in editing drafted legislation, codified acts, legislative reports, and other materials written by or for state legislatures and agencies, with particular emphasis for editors who edit bill drafts for legislatures or who are preparing statutes for publication.
Sessions at the conference will help the legislative editor to:
o Collaborate with the key stakeholders in the drafting process
o Improve writing skills
o Improve the writer-editor relationship through better communication
o Understand the bill drafting process
o Improve proofreading skills
o Understand editing from a publisher's point of view
Anyone who sees relevant training possibilities in the agenda is welcome to attend!
General Information
Come prepared for a casual yet professional conference at the Brown Palace Hotel in downtown Denver. Although the seminar is characterized by a relaxed and informal atmosphere, the meetings on Friday will be held at the Legislative Services Building, where “business casual” attire will be appropriate. Casual attire is appropriate and encouraged for all of the other sessions and events.
Denver is a great walking town and October is a great month to be here. It's fall so the temperatures will be lower--averaging about 68 degrees for highs and 33 degrees for lows. Just a few steps away from the Brown Palace Hotel, you'll find many dining and shopping options along Denver's 16th Street Mall.
