October 12 -13, 2003
Hollywood, Florida

The National Association of Secretaries of State, the National Conference of State Legislatures, and electionline.org are pleased to announce an exciting upcoming conference, Helping Americans Vote: A State Summit on Election Reform. The summit will examine the status of election reform in the states and explore the issues that states confront as they continue to work on improving the elections process. The meeting will be October 12-13, 2003 at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa on the beachfront of Hollywood, Florida.

The summit will mark the one-year anniversary of the passage of the federal Help America Vote Act, and will offer an outstanding opportunity to examine progress that states have made. Participants will share solutions to common obstacles to reform that have arisen thus far and talk about how to proceed in the critical months leading up to the 2004 election.

Sessions at the summit will include:

    • A keynote address, which will provide an overview of how prepared our nation is for the next presidential election-just a year away
    • Funding issues that many states continue to cope with
    • Innovative state reform strategies
    • Working with federal agencies
    • Important next steps
    • Briefings on some of the more controversial issues that have emerged, including the security of electronic voting and voter identification
