Nevada Senate
Senator Lawrence E. Jacobsen (R)
Senate President Pro Tempore
Is retiring from legislative service this year after having served 40 years in the Nevada Legislature. Senator Jacobsen's district was divided between two other senatorial districts during the reapportionment process. He would have been up for re-election this year, but the new district in which he resides doesn't hold a senatorial election until 2004. The Senator representing that district now (McGinness) remains that representative till then. Senator Jacobsen would have had to move into the new senatorial district that split his old district and run against another incumbent republican. He decided not to do so.
