Health Disparities: The Environmental Link

Wednesday, June 9th

This informative web cast will explore the connection between the environment and health disparities and the policy efforts to address these inequities.  Members of low-income communities and particular ethnic groups live in areas with proportionately higher exposures to environmental hazards, including air pollution, landfills, toxic waste sites, industrial facilities, unhealthy housing and pesticides.   In addition, these groups experience higher rates of illness--such as asthma, cancer and lead poisoning.   Although a number of factors influence health disparities, scientists suspect that the environment may play a role in many of them.
