Family Caregivers: The Backbone of Long Term CareJuly 28, 200410:00 a.m. Pacific; 11:00 a.m. Mountain; 12:00 p.m. Central, 1:00 p.m. EasternFamily caregivers are the backbone of the U.S. long-term care system. With the aging of the American population, the demand for formal long-term care services is expected to increase. State policymakers have a strong interest in sustaining and strengthening family caregiving as a complementary component of the service delivery system. This audioconference will highlight state and federal efforts to provide supportive services to family caregivers as they provide care to their relatives. Specifically, the session will feature the U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging, a national expert on family caregiving and two program administrators of state family caregiving programs.
