About State Health Notes' Funders
In January 2006, NCSL’s Forum for State Health Policy Leadership received a three-year grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The grant continues support for the broad mission of the Forum and establishes the Critical Health Areas Program (CHAP), which seeks to foster state leadership and expertise in four broad but critical health areas: coverage for the uninsured; alcohol and drug dependency; quality of care for the chronically ill; and health-care workforce, with an emphasis on nursing. State Health Notes is one of the main vehicles through which information about these issues will be conveyed to state health policymakers, including current and emerging state legislative leaders and staff. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is the nation’s largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to improving the health and health care of all Americans by supporting training, education, research and projects that demonstrate the effective delivery of health-care services.
The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation also supports State Health Notes, through its continued support for the Forum for State Health Policy Leadership. This one-year grant provides funding for stories that will include, but are not limited to: Medicaid cost and coverage issues; long-term care; federal and state initiatives to cover the uninsured; and implementation of the Medicare Modernization Act and the effect of the prescription drug benefit on states. The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation provides policymakers, the media, the health-care community and the general public with an independent voice and source of facts and analyses on the major health-care issues facing the nation.
