About State Health Notes

State Health Notes is a free biweekly electronic newsletter published by the National Conference of State Legislatures.  Founded in 1979, State Health Notes delivers timely and unbiased health policy news and analyses to state legislators and legislative staff, as well as the public.  The newsletter offers a state perspective on health-care issues, informing readers about new and innovative state bills, laws and programs.  It provides links to information within and outside NCSL, as well as a network of established key policy contacts.

In January 2006, State Health Notes moved to the NCSL Web site.  It now arrives in readers' email "inboxes" through "MyNCSL News," a customizable page on the NCSLnet Web site.  Readers can sign up for the newsletter on the State Health Notes homepage by clicking on State Health Notes E-news "sign-up" and selecting the State Health Notes box.

The SHN homepage displays the current issue and provides searchable archives of issues dating back to January 2003.  State Health Notes is published every other Monday, for a total of 24 issues each year.  Each issue will contain state health news, highlights of new reports and recent research from around the country, as well as data displayed through charts and other graphics.  The newsletter will offer an in-depth review of a key state health policy issue on a monthly basis, as well as quarterly interviews with legislators and other health experts.
