Cost-Effectiveness of Community Health CentersNational Conference of State Legislatures Spring ForumApril 30, 2004Of the approximately 43 million medically uninsured Americans, about 1 in 5 use community health centers (CHCs) as their medical home. National studies have shown that every dollar invested in community health centers saves $7 for Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. Other reports suggest that CHCs reduce or even eliminate racial and ethnic disparities. Can CHCs save money but still improve health outcomes? How are community health centers funded? What is the President's Initiative related to community health centers? This session answered these questions and more. These were two slide shows presented at the Cost-Effectiveness of Community Health Centers session at the NCSL Spring Forum, April 30, 2004. Sam S. Shekar, M.D., M.P.H. [slide
