"Healthier Foods getting More Costly, Study Says"

A new study from the University of Washington details that healthy, nutritious foods cost significantly more than unhealthy food prices, which have actually gone down in some instances. This finding has major implications for Americans, especially low-income citizens, who are already struggling with food costs, as well as with obesity and obesity-related diseases caused in part by unhealthy diets. While overall food prices rose 5 percent between 2004 and 2006, healthy food prices rose 20 percent, making the prospects of a healthy diet for Americans a larger challenge, especially as food costs, and gas costs that directly affect food prices, continue to rise.
