The National Conference of State Legislatures has assembled publications, Web sites and other resources on public policy for assisted reproduction. State legislatures consider a variety of concerns related to assisted reproductive technologies (ART), including the disposition of frozen embryos, gamete (egg & sperm) donor issues, and surrogacy. This Web page provides current information on public policy for ART to assist legislators, their staff and others in understanding the technology and its potential ethical, legal and social consequences.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Assisted Reproductive Technology Reports

This CDC Web page provides links to various reports on ART, including the 2000 report of pregnancy success rates issued under the Fertility Clinic Success Rate and Certification Act.

Reproductive Health

This NCSL Web page serves as a clearinghouse of information on reproductive health. Topics addressed include contraception, family planning, abortion, infertility, sex education, menopause, cancer prevention and detection and sexually transmitted diseases.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)

This CMS Web page provides information regarding CLIA, which sets forth quality standards for all laboratory testing to ensure the accuracy, reliability and timeliness of patient test results.

Women’s Health

This NCSL Web page provides information on issues of special concern to women, including maternal and child health, breast feeding and osteoporosis. The page also includes a summary of state commissions, offices and taskforces on women's health legislation.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
Tissue Action Plan

This Web page explains the FDA's Tissue Action Plan to develop policies, regulations and guidance documents needed to implement the "Proposed Approach to the Regulation of Cellular and Tissue-based Products" (including reproductive tissues) published by FDA in February of 1997.

Genetics Laws and Legislative Activity

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM)

ASRM is an organization devoted to advancing knowledge and expertise in infertility, reproductive medicine and biology.

This August 2004 brief summarizes the key issues and perspectives related to public policy for reproductive genetics.

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HEFA)

HEFA is a statutory body that regulates, licenses and collects data on fertility treatments such as IVF and donor insemination, as well as human embryo research, in the UK.

Genetics Policy Report: Reproductive Technologies

Scientific advances in reproductive technologies have brought the imagined world of science fiction into the real world of medical treatments and personal decisions but they also raise ethical concerns. This report by NCSL's Blue Ribbon Panel on Human Genetic Technologies provides information and analysis to assist policymakers confronted with public policy issues surrounding reproductive genetics.

The American Infertility Association (AIA)

AIA is a national non-profit organization dedicated to assisting women and men facing decisions related to family building and reproductive health - from prevention and treatment of infertility to social and psychological concerns.

The National Centers of Excellence for Women's Health

The National Centers of Excellence for Women's Health is a project within the Office on Women's Health, US Department of Health and Human Services. The project provides a listing of clinical services, research, professional education, and outreach associated with reproductive technologies.

RESOLVE is a nationwide organization in the United States. RESOLVE provides education and information associated with reproductive technologies.
