  • The National Center for Health Workforce Information and Analysis offers downloadable versions of several recent reports, including State Health Workforce Profiles; The Pharmacist Workforce: A Study of the Supply and Demand for Licensed Pharmacists; and Graduate Medical Education and Public Policy: A Primer.
  • The Division of Nursing (http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/dn/dn.htm), offers links to several reports on nursing supply and education.
  • The Area Resource File (ARF) (http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/arf.htm) has county-level health data, with more than 6,000 variables drawn from more than 50 sources.

The Council on Graduate Medical Education (http://www.cogme.gov/pubs.htm) provides an ongoing assessment of physician workforce trends, training issues and financing policies, and recommends appropriate federal and private sector efforts on these issues. Several recent reports are available online.

State licensure boards have national associations that can be a useful source of both state-specific and comparative information.

  • The Federation of State Medical Boards (http://www.fsmb.org) lists policy documents, state medical board information and a board action databank.
  • The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (http://www.ncsbn.org) links to each state's board of nursing.
  • Florida's medical and health professions licensing boards are consolidated under a Medical Quality Assurance Division (MQA) with a clear, useful web site http://www9.myflorida.com/Mqa/index.html

The Urban Institute (http://www.urban.org/health/pindus.htm) has several health workforce reports that are available online.
