DIGGING DEEPER The General Accounting Office (GAO) site http://www.gao.gov includes the agency's May 2000 report on mental health parity. On the index click GAO Reports, go to Recent Reports and then to listed by subject matter. Find Mental Health Parity Act: Despite New Federal Standards, Mental Health Benefits Remain Limited HEHS-00-95. in the health care listing . A shorter version is at T-HEHS-00-113. The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) http://www.nami.org. site includes a search feature and the home page links to a summary of state action on parity. The Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA) http://www.hiaa.org site includes testimony to Congress on parity by Dean Rosen, senior vice president of policy and general counsel. To find it, click on news room, statements and reports and then scroll to the statement. The National Mental Health Association (NMHA) http://www.nmha.org site provides links to various articles on parity published between February 1998 and May 2000. From the home page go to more about us, then to parity and then search for parity under Legislative Alert/New Release Search. The American Association of Health Plans (AAHP) http://www.aahp.org site includes a search feature.
