Small but Significant Steps to Help the Uninsured
Jeanne Lambrew, associate professor of health policy at George Washington University, conducts policy-relevant research on Medicare, Medicaid, the uninsured and long-term care. She will identify groups of people that are most at risk for being uninsured or underinsured, and discuss incremental policy changes that can be employed in order to increase the number of people accessing quality health care.

Aiming for Better Health: Targeted Policies to Improve Access and Coverage
Following Dr. Lambrew’s presentation, you will have time to exchange ideas about approaches to access and coverage that you plan to introduce or have been working on in your state, especially policies that improve opportunities for groups that might otherwise lag. We’ll start the ball rolling by learning more about which groups of constituents are hard to reach, and where you think policy changes are likely to make a difference. We’ll be sure there are copies of legislation or proposals that you’ve sent for everyone to look at—bills you’ve taken up in the past, successful statutes, or ideas for legislation you may introduce in the upcoming session. The theme of the discussion is making sure groups aren’t left out. Legislation might be targeted to address a single problem (rural access or small businesses, for example), or you may want to point out a series of targeted elements in larger comprehensive legislation. This session will give you a chance to exchange ideas and fine tune your plans in anticipation of the upcoming session.
