Massachusetts and Indiana: Thinking through Options for Access 

Massachusetts led the way in 2006 with a complicated and comprehensive access reform.  This session will compare Massachusetts with other recent state efforts to expand access, and we’ll walk through the process of comparing and choosing among options.  Come prepared to talk about approaches under discussion in your state.

Integrating Treatment of Chronic Diseases and Mental Health Conditions 

Mental illness frequently co-occurs in people with chronic conditions complicating the treatment of both.  One third of patients with depression have a co-occurring medical condition and another third have two medical conditions.  The mortality, morbidity and costs increase in patients with mental illness and chronic disease.  Learn about models that coordinate care to address both the medical conditions and the mental illness.

The Outcomes of Addiction Treatment and Approaches to Measuring Performance 

This session will focus on performance measurement in addiction treatment programs and will include information about the National Outcome Measures (NOMs).  Tom McLellan will discuss how treatment can be more accountable and effective.  Ken Stark will discuss how expanding alcohol/drug treatment is an investment in health care cost containment and public safety.

Telemedicine and Providers Distance Education: Lessons from States
