Colorado Health Promotion Policy Institute
March 7-8, 2003

In the Winter of 2003, the Health Promotion Program at NCSL hosted a Health Promotion Policy Institute in Colorado. The objectives of this meeting were to:

    • To increase state policymakers' knowledge about chronic disease prevalence and prevention.
    • To increase state policymakers' knowledge about risk factors related to chronic disease prevention (improving nutrition, increasing physical activity, reducing tobacco use).
    • To explore roles that state legislators play to develop chronic disease prevention policies and activities.
    • To stimulate dialogue among state policymakers, state health department staff and state and national experts about chronic disease prevention.

"Approaching Risk Factors from Policy Perspectives"

Speaker: Dr. Margo Wootan, Director, Nutrition Policy, Center for Science in the Public Interest

"Policies to Reduce Tobacco Use: A Review of the Evidence"
