Public Health:  Understanding State and Local Responsibility In A Public Health Emergency

Mitigation of a major public health emergency requires federal, state and local organizations to work in concert to protect community health and well being. Players must understand their roles as well as the roles of their counterparts in order to efficiently meet the needs of the citizens. Experts from the public and private sectors will discuss federal, state and local responsibilities in responding to a major emergency. Highlights of pandemic influenza response activities will also be discussed.

Kids Shelter Health Improvement Project (KidsSHIP)
(Co-sponsored by NCSL's Health Committee and the American Academy of Pediatrics)

Fall Forum participants are welcome to participate in a tour of the "Kids Shelter Health Improvement Project" (KidsSHIP).  The project, about a 10-minute bus ride from the Hilton, serves both homeless children and adolescents by providing appropriate health care and a physical assessment, as well as access to the Public Assistance system, educational placement, and developmental assessments.  This project was created from a planning grant received from the American Academy of Pediatrics CATCH program.  Bus transportation will be provided.  Refreshments served.
