Rhode Island

Overview: R.I. Genl. Laws §35-3-24.1 requires that the governor submit performance objectives for each program in the budget for the ensuing fiscal year, estimated performance data for the fiscal year in which the budget is submitted, actual performance data for the preceding two fiscal years, and appropriate standards against which program performance can be measured, beginning in 1997.

Performance Measures: General information on Rhode Island performance measures is available at the state budget office web site:

The governor's budget summary for FY 2001 reported that the FY 2000 budget marked the completion of Phase II of the development of performance measures for each major program in state government. The measures are included in the governor's budget submission to the legislature.

The budget submission includes agency performance goals and reports in its Technical Appendix. It is available at this web site:
