Overview: Alaska's governor and legislature have established mission statements and performance measures for state agencies through the state budgeting process. The governor's budget proposal for FY 2001 included agency mission statements, statements of major goals and strategies, and key performance measures and performance reports. Legislation enacts mission statements and performance measures for agency division and in some cases programs within divisions. and It reports on the agency performance measures set in the previous year's budget proposal.

The legislature enacted mission statements and performance measures for state agencies for FY 2001 in Senate Bill 281, "An Act Relating to Missions and Measures."
