Interactive Map of State Military "Encroachment" Laws

December 20, 2004

To streamline "best practices" and general information on what states have done to date, the Department of Defense has developed an interactive map program that contains information on all known state initiatives in support of military range sustainability.  The state legislation, administrative rules and other policies address the issue of how best to manage incompatible land development adjacent to military bases--known as encroachment--to ensure that military training operations are not compromised, and to protect the safety of nearby residents.  The interactive map, "State Initiatives Supporting Military Range Sustainability," is located at http://www.denix.osd.mil/SustainableRanges.
