Legislative Roundtables - NCSL legislative roundtables provide state legislators with the opportunity to tour DOE facilities and meet with DOE personnel, headquarters and site staff.

Joint Committee Meetings - NCSL brings together members of legislative committees from states that host, or are affected by, DOE facilities or transportation activities.

State Briefings - At the request of the states, NCSL will coordinate briefings with legislative leaders; chairs of key committees; and legislators whose districts include the sites and the majority of site employees, or whose districts include proposed transportation routes.

Technical Assistance
Purpose
NCSL offers technical assistance programs which generally include presentations to legislative committees or other legislative groups by NCSL staff, technical experts, state executive branch staff, or legislators/staff from other states experienced in the particular issue. NCSL staff can prepare background materials, or provide materials from another source.
Issue and Location Determination
NCSL will plan a technical assistance program in a state or region upon legislator or legislative staff request, or other affected states or regions identified by NCSL and approved by legislative leadership. To identify state- or region-specific issues, NCSL will survey legislators and legislative staff as appropriate.
Technical assistance programs could include any of the following:
- State legislatures in states that house large volumes of spent fuel or are located along transportation corridors, will be offered technical assistance to explain the nuclear waste program, spent fuel transportation plans and emergency response and planning activities.
- Working group officers and NCSL staff can brief key legislators or legislative committees about current issues of interest, NCSL's institutional memory about the high-level radioactive waste project and relevant working group activities.
- Site visits to nuclear power plants or the potential repository can be provided, as appropriate and if funds are available, to state legislators and staff.
